Write for Us

We envision a future where young people are empowered with the right knowledge of religions, faith, empathy, morality, knowledge, and positive thinking.

What We Publish

UMMA INDIA publishes a range of formats (articles, listicles, interviews, personal essays, profile pieces, reviews, or even photo series) under different categories. The pieces we publish are rooted in in-depth research and the nuances of different issues and stories.

We are looking for well-researched pieces that reference statistics, include images (where applicable), are grammatically correct, and have a variety that goes beyond superficial analysis to dive deep into what it means to exist as a Muslim today.

We only accept articles via our submission form

Below you’ll find examples of some of the pieces that we’ve previously commissioned that reflect the kind of content we are seeking to publish at UMMA INDIA

Please do not hesitate to pitch us a topic or issue that you think is important but that you may not see listed on our website.

Umma India does not publish pieces that promote hate, prejudice, or discrimination of any kind. We also take plagiarism very seriously.

Do we pay our writers?

We offer a contribution fee for every new piece published with us. We do not pay for articles that are already published elsewhere, but you are still welcome to pitch them to us for publication.

After You Submit Your Pitch

Once our editorial team receives your piece via form, it will be accepted for consideration. What happens next is that an assigned editor will go through it and do one of the following:

  • Accept it for publication
  • Advise it might not be quite right for our platform
  • Offer feedback on tone, structure or request elaboration
  • Remember, if on this occasion your contribution isn’t published, it just means we may already have a piece like it or it’s not fitting our current Editorial tone.

We aim to process all submissions within 10 working days. If your pitch is accepted, you will receive an email from a member of our editorial team with the expectation that the piece will be received within 7 working days. Your piece may go through a few rounds of revisions to ensure that it is ready for publication, and we will communicate any edits or changes with you throughout this process.

Further, If you have not heard back from us after a month, it means your pitch has not been accepted for publication. Rarely do we decline a pitch because it isn’t a good idea; rather, it is down to time and capacity constraints, or maybe because your pitch was not the right fit for our editorial tone and audience.

We look forward to receiving your submissions!
